The local branch of the Red Cross in Petrinja has launched a new project, 'Active Body, Healthy Mind 3', aimed exclusively at older users. This humanitarian initiative is designed to promote active ageing and ensure the overall well-being of older citizens through social and physical activity.

The key partners in the implementation of this project are the local branch of the Red Cross in Petrinja, the local branch of the Red Cross in Sisak, and the citizens' association 'Aktivism' (GRAK). The collaboration, in addition to the aforementioned associations, extends to the Petrinja Home for the Elderly, thereby ensuring comprehensive support for users. The project is funded by free resources obtained through the call 'Strengthening the capacity of civil society organisations to implement active ageing programmes' and is co-financed by the European Social Plus Fund.

The core of the programme consists of diverse workshops that stimulate the cognitive and motor skills of participants. Users engage in activities such as playing ping pong, solving crosswords, and performing stretching exercises. Special emphasis is placed on creative workshops, including the making of jewellery from fabric, painting glass jars, and workshops on making one's own pasta and dumplings, which encourage participants to socialise and be creative.

Special attention is also paid to health aspects. Blood pressure and blood sugar levels are measured for the most at-risk groups, with these measurements taken several times a month at the local market in Petrinja. In addition to the aforementioned activities, the programme includes workshops on digital literacy and the organisation of excursions, including a planned trip to Topuško.

The 'Active Body, Healthy Mind 3' project will run until 24 May 2029. The total value of the project is almost €300,000, which ensures stable conditions for the implementation of all planned activities and support for older citizens during the project's duration.
