Political philosopher Žarko Puh commented on the recent waste crisis, stating that the government's response was inadequate. In his view, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković should have dismissed the minister, Marija Vučković, as well as the leadership of the Environment Protection Fund, which was not done in time.
It was pointed out that the minister did not exercise sufficient oversight over her ministry. Although she stated that the waste issue in Gospić was not significant, the reality showed the opposite, namely that it was a major ecological problem. Such an assessment by the ministry contributed to a delay in the response to the crisis.
Instead of immediate intervention, the government established an expert panel on waste, placing the rector at its head, who did not have sufficient knowledge of the specific issue. The decision to form this body was made only fifteen days after the crisis began, which led to the perception that the government's response was delayed.
Given that it was a waste crisis, it was expected that the government would react quickly.
