US Federal Judge Richard Stearns has dismissed a lawsuit brought by the Trump administration against Harvard. The ruling was delivered on Thursday, bringing an end to the legal dispute initiated in March this year.
The lawsuit alleged that Harvard University failed to provide adequate protection to Jewish and Israeli students following the outbreak of war in Gaza. The allegations centred on the institution’s alleged failure to ensure a safe environment for these groups of students.
Judge Stearns carefully considered the arguments and determined that the administration had not demonstrated a persistent violation of federal civil rights law at Harvard University. This ruling means that the lawsuit lacks sufficient legal basis to proceed in its current form.
The decision represents a significant legal setback for the administration, which had sought to impose stricter measures on the elite American university. The judge highlighted the lack of evidence regarding a systematic and persistent violation of the regulations.
