A major fire has engulfed the island of Brač, with the situation on the ground assessed as critical. Firefighters are working intensively to defend the settlement of Milna, preventing the fire from spreading to the settlement and nearby tourist facilities. One of the key points of protection was the Gava resort, which was successfully defended by fire brigades, but the surrounding area remains under threat from the flames.
The situation worsened suddenly following a gust of wind, with the strong bura wind driving the fire towards the southern parts of the island. The ring of fire is spreading through difficult terrain covered in dense vegetation, making the extinguishing process more challenging. Firefighters are constantly adapting their tactics, taking into account the unpredictable changes in the behaviour of the wind and the fire.
In addition, residents are advised to follow the instructions of the fire service and other emergency services. Special attention is being paid to elderly and infirm people, for whom assistance is being sought in evacuation. Residents are urged to remain calm and not to return to the affected areas, thereby reducing the risk of further danger.
