Police officers have filed a report against a 65-year-old man from the Lipica municipality. The reason for initiating the procedure is a post on social media, which, according to the police, insulted officials while they were performing their duties. The incident occurred on 3 September, and the police determined that it constituted an offence in the sphere of public order.
The man was brought before the County Court in Bjelovar, where he was heard in connection with the aforementioned offence. The court, following the hearing, issued a decision releasing the man on bail. Although the procedure was initiated due to a breach of public order, the judge assessed that the offence was one for which a fine could be imposed; therefore, he was not remanded in custody.
This case illustrates the strict measures taken by the police towards public expressions deemed offensive to officials in the performance of their duties.
