The Rijek a Maritime Police Station recorded a series of maritime offences over the past week, during which a total of 26 instances of unauthorised planing were identified. These offences took place within 300 metres of the shore, posing a significant risk to navigation safety. Given the seriousness of the infractions, a total of 13 foreigners were sanctioned, the majority of whom were from neighbouring and European countries.
The largest group of offenders, comprising 13 individuals, consisted of German nationals. They were followed by Austrian nationals, for whom six offences were identified, and three Slovenian nationals. In addition, individual citizens from Belgium, Hungary and Ukraine were sanctioned. All offenders were fined in accordance with the provisions of the Maritime Act.
A specific incident was recorded at the island of Krk, where police stopped a German national who had committed the offence of unauthorised planing. In addition, he was sanctioned for not possessing the certificate for the rented vessel. The vessel he was using also did not display the required registration mark, which further complicates the identification and determination of responsibility in the event of an accident.
In the same area, off the coast of Krk, an offence related to fishing was recorded. Two Croatian nationals were caught practising underwater fishing, without properly marking their underwater fishing equipment with the mandatory orange float. This detail, although seemingly minor at first glance, is crucial for the recognisability of divers in the water and for preventing accidents, particularly in conditions of reduced visibility.
Enhanced surveillance by the maritime police will continue in the coming days. The aim of these measures is to raise the level of safety in maritime traffic and to prevent accidents caused by irresponsible behaviour. The police will continue to strictly enforce regulations to ensure the safety of all participants in maritime traffic, including those who violate planing regulations or misuse equipment improperly.
