Bela is preparing for the construction of new cycle infrastructure, continuing the ongoing work to improve mobility and the quality of life for residents. According to announcements, the works for the construction of the new path, valued at 733,193.13 euros, have been entrusted to the company Gravija. The contract for the execution of these works was signed by the mayor of Belišće, Igor Pavelić, officially marking the start of the realisation of this infrastructure project.
The value of the project, amounting to 733,193.13 euros, is funded primarily by the European Union, specifically through the Competitiveness and Cohesion programme, which provides 623,214.16 euros. The remaining funding is provided by the local authority, demonstrating the joint effort of local and national levels in improving local infrastructure. This project, building on the previous success of the Bike & Boat project, represents a continuation of the development of urban transport corridors.
The route of the new cycle path runs along the northern side of King Petar Svačić Street, connecting two key junctions in the town. The path begins at the Croatian Veterans' Street and ends at Liberty Square, creating a link between important points in the town. The length of this infrastructure is 2,178 meters, a significant step towards better connectivity between town districts.
Special attention is being paid to the safety and functionality of the path, particularly at Liberty Square where a protective barrier will be constructed around the existing roundabout. Additionally, a footpath will be built on the same square, further improving the safety of pedestrians. Green spaces, already present in this part of the town, will be retained, with additional landscaping carried out according to the instructions of the investor, enhancing the aesthetic and ecological aspects of the area.
Although part of the route, from the House of Culture in Branin Vrh to the Karašica river, has not received approval from the relevant authorities, the local authority of Belišće plans to proceed with the implementation of the remaining section of the path. This demonstrates the local authority's continued commitment to the development of sustainable mobility, and the effort to create a more favourable environment for all users, whether cyclists, pedestrians, or drivers. This step, following the previous success of the Bike & Boat project, where a cycle path was built in Osječka Street, represents an important step towards achieving the goal of sustainable development in the town of Beloš.
