The 35th anniversary of the departure of veterans was marked in Varaždin, with the event organised in cooperation with the branch of the Croatian Association of Victims of Serbian Concentration Camps in Varažbin County. Alongside the organisers, representatives of the Varažbin and Međimurje Police Directorates took part, giving the event a solemn character appropriate for marking this significant anniversary.
The programme began with a solemn mass, followed by the laying of flowers and the lighting of candles, primarily in Čakovec and Varaždin, as a sign of remembrance for all those who laid down their lives in defence of the homeland. These symbolic gestures were intended to pay tribute to all participants and to mark the significance of the event in the context of the Croatian Homeland War.
The following was a solemn academic ceremony, which included a rich programme designed to mark the 35th anniversary of the departure. Although some information remained unverified, the emphasis was placed on respect for all who had taken part in the defence of the country. The programme also included a tribute to the 20 deceased, which further highlighted the weight and significance of the event for all participants and the families of the fallen.
The event remains a poignant reminder of the sacrifices and contributions of all those involved in the defence of the country.
