A knife attack on students took place at the Zagreb Electrotechnical School on Friday, in which a student and a cleaner were injured. The attacker, a minor student, attacked other students with a knife. According to unofficial information, the incident was preceded by a fight between two first-year students. At the time of the attack, two out of the three security staff were present at the scene, and one person was trying to calm the situation. The injured were taken to hospital, where doctors determined that they were stable. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, in 2023 there was a 20 per cent increase in juvenile delinquency, and the number of juvenile offenders was the highest in the last 10 years. The Minister of Science, Education and Youth stated that all circumstances would be reviewed after the police had completed their part of the work. The Mayor of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomašević, stated that the issue of shortcomings in the security system should be addressed once all the facts were known. The incident caused great concern among the public, with parents expressing concern about safety in the school premises. The school announced that it would conduct a detailed analysis of the incident to prevent similar situations in the future. Students were removed from the school, and parents were invited to a meeting to discuss safety in the school.
