Yesterday at around 9.50, a road accident occurred on state road DC 102 in the settlement of Krk, in which a 60-year-old female passenger was seriously injured. The collision occurred when a 57-year-old Italian citizen, driving a car, failed to maintain the necessary safety distance from the vehicle moving in front of him upon entering a roundabout. His car hit a motorcycle that was passing along that section at the time.
The motorcycle was driven by a 61-year-old Austrian citizen, and due to the force of the impact, both passengers on the motorcycle fell onto the road. After the fall, the motorcycle continued to skid and hit the rear of a car driven by a 40-year-old German citizen. The female passenger from the motorcycle was transported to the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka, where doctors determined that she had sustained serious bodily injuries.
On the same day, at around 15, a second road accident occurred in the area of Čabar on state road DC-3, in which a 56-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured. According to the stated facts, the accident occurred when the motorcycle driver, travelling in the direction of Delnice, did not adjust his speed to the current characteristics and condition of the road in a bend.
Due to the unadjusted speed, the 56-year-old driver lost control of the motorcycle, which then fell onto the road. The driver was injured in the accident and was urgently transported to the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka to receive medical assistance. In both accidents on the Istrian roads, motorcycles were involved, and the causes were human error in the form of incorrect following distance and unadjusted speed.
